*REVIEWS OF “GOSPEL & JAZZ SOUNDS OF THE LOWCOUNTRY”

George & Karen Heitman / Sun City*

Amazing Performance. The mix of Jazz and Gospel kept hands and feet moving! A feast for the eyes and ears, hungry for more.

I was able to absorb the improvisation, syncopation, and swing notes – jazz … pure and simple jazz.  The rich sounds of the jazz & gospel singers had the whole theatre alive and swinging. The show gave me goose bumps.  Jazzy goose bumps! This is a great musical production and it needs to be performed again, to let the rest of the low country enjoy the sweet sound of gospel singing and the rich sound of jazz.  I’ll see you at the next show!  An incredibly fulfilling evening!

Lois Wilkinson*

Paul Jacobson / Port Royal Sound Vocals*

Terrific vehicle for local and native musicians to showcase their talents, energy and spirit

Laura Maxey / Managing Director / The Arts Council of Beaufort County, “Moon River: The Life & Music of Johnny Mercer”

I recently had the opportunity to work with Terry Herron on putting together a Johnny Mercer show for the Arts Council’s theatre. From the first meeting, I knew that Mr. Herron was a consummate professional. He was organized, had lots of ideas to contribute and also seemed to really listen to what I thought our audiences would enjoy. Through subsequent meetings planning the show, my opinion was only re-enforced as Mr. Herron pulled together a team of talented vocal and instrumental performers, as well as a Johnny Mercer Historian from Savannah who contributed historical and personal information about Mercer to the show. Based on the careful preparation leading up to the performance, I was expecting a top-notch show –and boy was it! We sold every seat and had people lining up, hoping for no-show tickets. Not only was the music great, but Terry has a natural rapport with the audience and conducted the show more like he was hosting a great cocktail party than a formal concert. Many audience members made a point of telling me how much they loved the show as they were leaving, and we certainly hope to have Terry, Penney Lynn Smith and Rick Radcliff back to the Arts Council on a regular basis.

Fred Gerhart / Vintage Prime / Hilton Head, SC

Wow. That was an awesome night.  Very classy.  Great music. And fun.  Both Heather and I loved the evening.  Thank you.

Daryl Ferguson / Beaufort, S.C. (USCB-CENTER FOR THE ARTS – APRIL 2014 – “FLY ME TO THE MOON”)

By the way your show was fantastic. We had to leave immediately after the show to attend a party.  My suggestion...take it on the road.  It is definitely an off-Broadway quality show.

Michael Jukofsky / Former President / Rotary Club of Hilton Head Island

It has been my pleasure to have chaired the Hilton Head Island Hall of Fame concerts the past two years featuring Terry Herron and his Associates.

Their productions have been stellar and enthusiastically received by our concert attendees. Last year’s Johnny Mercer Tribute followed by this year’s Sinatra and pop themes were professionally orchestrated and left our audiences wanting more.  We are making plans for 2014!

Don Brashears / HILTON HEAD ROTARY

I make it a point to make music a big part of my life. Terry's performance filled the recent void of live, professional, over-to-top vocals which I enjoy so much. His voice is comfortable and soothing and once a song is done and you are applauding, you know you have just heard a fantastic singer doing what he does best!!

Bonnie Hargrove / Director / University of South Carolina Beaufort - Center for the Arts

Terry,  Please share to your musicians how much we enjoyed the concert on Friday.   Everyone did an outstanding job and we loved working with them.   Have a great week and thanks again.

To: Terry Herron   Subject:    Simply Maaaaavelous!  I had to send you a quick note and tell how much we enjoyed the Mercer program in Beaufort. You did a masterful job, as did all the musicians.  It was a great program, a sure winner wherever you take it.  Many thanks Terry for a wonderful evening.

Ashleigh Whitmore / Marketing & Communications Director, Events Director / Hampton Hall Club-Toll Brothers

Hello Terry,
I have been so glad to run across 6 different Members today that were just thrilled with the music last night.  You definitely carry a fantastic energy with the show!  Many, many thumbs-up all the way around.  Please do send any suggestions along.  We’ve tried various formats over the last 5 years I’ve been here but am always happy to consider other possibilities. Thank you!

Lisa Carroll / owner of Moonstar Advertising Public Relations and Rotarian

Sold out!  The first Johnny Mercer Tribute was a quality musical experience with fascinating details provided about the songwriter’s life.  Terry Herron has strong organizational and creative skills to provide a great musical experience and he has a true passion for the music. The Savannah Jazz Orchestra was exceptional.  We are fortunate to have this kind of talent in our area.

Rob Ciapanna / Food and Beverage Director / The Country Club of Hilton Head

Terry Herron, and his singers and musicians performed at The Country Club of Hilton Head for our Christmas Cabaret on December 15, 2011. It was the first time we had hosted this event. Terry’s lead on organizing and executing the event was nothing short of remarkable. We had 250 Members in attendance and their performance exceeded our expectations so much that it is now an annual event.

This past February the club hosted our second annual Member Variety Show. This event has become so popular that for the first time in the clubs’ history…we had to add a second show to accommodate all the Members. Terry again took the lead to put together the entire event, including the talent, auditions, sound, audiovisual and also his own performance multiple times during the show.  He made the event a complete hit. Terry has been instrumental in organizing, planning and executing several events for our club. His dedication and attention to detail is obvious when the show starts. I would recommend Terry to any club or organization that is looking for professionalism,  quality entertainment, and fresh new ideas.

Randi B. Selman / Activities Director / The Cypress Club

I am writing to relate my experiences with Terry Herron and the Holiday Cabaret.

The Holiday Cabaret kicked off our holiday season this past December.  The ensemble of five captured their audience as soon as they started their first number.  Teri Rini Powers and Larry Kropp were the perfect blend of smooth Jazz and Pop and Jenny Zmarzley and Terry Herron were the ideal comedic team, playing off each other for laughs.  The evening of entertainment flew by, and our members were reluctant to leave, as they still wanted more and more.  We can’t wait for next year to have them back again. I would not hesitate to hire these amazing singing groups back to The Cypress.  If you want any more information, please do call me anytime.

Sue

This is Sue Brett...Ed went to a holiday open house yesterday at life services and the general consensus was that we need more shows like yours...one women said it was the best show she had seen here in the last 5 years.  Hope your head isn’t swelling too much!!!.

Ed Brett / Sun City

We wanted to tell you again what a wonderful show you put on last week-end and wish you another get one at Art Works Friday.  We’ve heard some outstanding comments from other Sun City people that went...how well you related to the audience, the song choices and how professional the singers were.   Hopefully you can do it again sometime.  See you Saturday.

Jan Maganini / Seabrook

Hi Terry,
The Seabrook residents are quite discerning regarding entertainment and are not above walking out in the middle of a performance if they are not pleased.  That was not the case with you and your group.  Our residents were entranced and the glowing remarks made afterward were incredible.  I repeatedly heard, “Get them back; we loved every minute!”  You have a standing invitation from us to perform any of your accomplished programs.  Please keep us on your list of places to entertain.  How about that Johnny Mercer Salute—we’re ready when you are!

Jim Collett / Hilton Head Rotary

Subject: Rotary Celebration

Terry, what an event! The only thing I could nit-pick was that the band overpowered the singers some of the time.  Absolutely super event. Highly engaged and a huge audience. Great music. Huge win for Rotary and the Island.  Great job.
